Sign Up To Be An OKCU Reads Discussion Group Leader!

OKCU Reads is our common reading program facilitated by the office of First-Year Experience in Academic Affairs. The purpose is to introduce our first-year students to the academy and to participate in active engagement through reading, discussing, critical thinking, and listening to others’ ideas as a vital component of the OKCU Experience.

This year’s selection is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. The Lacks family will be visiting our campus in August to speak about the book, Henrietta, HeLa cells, and their family.

Each year a talented group of OKCU employees lead small discussion groups with our new students to discuss the book! Training and lunch is provided prior to the events, and each discussion group leader is provided a free copy of the book.

If you would like to volunteer to be a discussion group leader, or if you have questions about the OKCU Reads program, contact Colbi Beam at cbeam@okcu.edu.
